About Marivette G. Rivera

Marivette González Rivera is an experienced family law attorney as well as a State of Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Law Mediator trained in Interdisciplinary Collaborative Law and Colorado Mediation. She is passionate about helping people through difficult and sensitive legal family matters. She is licensed to practice law in the State of Florida and Colorado.

As an attorney, she takes the time to listen to clients, educate them about the rights and options, and provide the support that’s so often required during sensitive family matters. As a mediator, she takes off her attorney hat and is a neutral third person who listens to the parties and helps facilitate the communication between the parties to reach an amicable resolution.

Over the course of her career, Attorney Rivera has helped hundreds of families in a broad range of family law matters. She has counseled mother’s, father’s, business owners, people with foreign decrees, and parents in matters involving custody, child support, relocation, modifications, prenuptials, enforcement proceedings, and paternity issues. She has helped clients reach agreements in mediation and counseling low and high-net-worth clients. In all matters, she approaches her clients with respect and compassion while helping them identify their roles, expectations, and viable solutions that align with their family’s best interests and the best interests of their children, if any.

Attorney Rivera is a graduate of Rutgers University, where she received her undergraduate degree in Administration of Justice with a Criminology Certification and minors in Sociology and Spanish. Subsequently, Attorney Rivera attended Florida A&M University, College of Law. While in law school, she worked in the Homelessness and Legal Advocacy Clinic assisting underserved people and communities locally with family law and landlord/tenant matters and the Community Economic Development Clinic providing legal assistance to small non-profit businesses. She earned and was awarded the esteemed Holly Marie Stutz scholarship for outstanding academic qualifications and commitment to public interest law.

After obtaining her law degree, she served as a Public Defender in the Ninth Circuit in Orange County, Florida, where she represented hundreds of people in various criminal law matters and litigated on behalf of her clients to ensure that their defenses and voices were heard.  Her passion to help people with language barriers and injustices was further ignited during this time in her career.

In 2011, Attorney Rivera opened up the doors to her own law firm, now The MGR Law Firm, in Orlando, Florida. Marivette has cultivated a reputation as one of Orlando’s most respected family law attorneys and distinguished herself in its vibrant leadership community. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando and Young Fathers of Central Florida, an organization dedicated to addressing fathers’ rights in family law matters, and has held membership roles with many other community- and industry-oriented organizations. The MGR firm has acted as a host site for UCF’s legal studies program and a place of mentorship to many upcoming attorneys from different law schools.

Attorney Rivera’s commitment to the community was noticed when Vision Magazine and City of Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer recognized her as one of the 25 most influential Hispanics in Central Florida and when she was selected as a keynote speaker for the women’s “I Am Brave” Conference in Orlando.  She has also been featured as a guest legal commentator on outlets such as Univision, Telemundo, and Orange County TV.

Attorney Rivera is bilingual (English/Spanish) and a native of Puerto Rico.
